Voices about Scania i-talent.

Senior Recruitment Consultant, Academic Work

How should my CV look?

Clarity is the be-all and end-all! Be clear with the dates for any jobs you’ve had, what education you’ve completed, and which positions you are most interested in at Scania.

How do I best prepare for the interview, and how do I make a good first impression?

At the interview with Academic Work, the focus will primarily be on the personal qualities that are most important for an I-Talent (innovative, self-developing, cooperative, and problem-solving). Read through the advertisement, think of concrete examples when you have demonstrated these qualities, and consider why you are interested in the specific role you have applied for and Scania as a company. Before the interview at Scania, it’s good to do some extra research about them on their
website and prepare your questions, and also highlight what you think you can
contribute!

What type of person fits at Scania?

At Scania, there is room for all personality types! You will be surrounded by people of different ages, with different backgrounds, and from different cultures. For this particular recruitment, we are looking for you with the right potential, a great interest in Scania, and a strong desire to develop yourself!

What should I wear?

Your clothing style should not affect the assessment of you as a candidate. The most important thing is that you wear clothes that you feel comfortable and secure in and that do not take your focus away from the conversation.

I feel nervous!

No worries! A little nervousness only shows that you take the interview situation seriously and are keen to make a good impression. Take the time you need to answer the questions and remember that everyone can make mistakes. If you say something wrong or something that is perceived as irrelevant, just pause and explain what you really meant.

Could you describe the culture at Scania, by using 3 words?

Flexible, Inspirational & Nerdy. By Nerdy, I mean that everyone has their own interests which they are not afraid to share of! And flexible due to the hybrid-working solutions and the (relatively) new office in Sergel.

Is there anything that surprised you by working at Scania?

Actually the sheer size of the company. I knew Scania was global with thousands employed around the world, but visiting different factories makes you realize how
awesome the logistics is to handle all this. That was certainly an eye-opener!

Since you recently graduated, do you have any “life-hacks” or recommendations for the students to know about before they start their career after graduation?

Ask yourself where you would like to be (career-wise) in the future. Spending some time thinking about it and developing a realistic well-thought answer will help align your expectations with recruiters! At least for me it helped have a healthy dialogue and actually unlock new options (which was why I applied to I-talent)

Do you prefer the Office in Södertälje or the Sergel Office in Stockholm?

Tough one… The Sergel office in stockholm is very sleek and feels great to work in (and very close to home too!) But in the office in Södertälje there are several things
such as: PS5, Massage chair, Ping Pong table etc. which are missing in sergels office!

All-in-all I like the Sergel-office more, its novelty effect has still not worn off for me just yet.

What made you choose to apply for the I-talent program?

It was very much a “at the right place at the right time” moment for me. I originally applied for a Data Engineering/Analyst role with aspiration for growing into role of Data Scientest and working with Forecasts, ML/AI. But after discussions with the recruiter, a newly opened position for I-talent was available which fit my profile and aspirations. After interviews with the team at Scania I knew it would be great-fit!

Could you describe the culture at Scania, by using 3 words?

From my experience I would describe it as non-hierarchical, supportive and open. There is space for you to come up with own ideas and projects and follow the path you’re interested in. Ooops, I guess that’s a bit more than 3 words.

Since you recently graduated, do you have any “life-hacks” or recommendations for the students to know about before they start their career after graduation?

Don’t worry too much about not knowing everything or fulfilling all the requirements for different job descriptions. Showing that you’re excited and curious goes a long way!

Is there anything that surprised you by working at Scania?

How easy and quick it was to feel like a part of the team. I would honestly say that it’s been easier to adapt to working as a developer compared to studying at university.

Do you prefer the Office in Södertälje or the Sergel Office in Stockholm?

I prefer the office in Södertälje because that’s where my colleagues are sitting.

What made you choose to apply for the I-talent program?

I was specifically looking for newly graduate IT-programs since I was a bit nervous about the transition to work-life and becoming a “real” adult.

The I-talent program was one of the ones that I applied to while writing my thesis and they were by far the ones with the fastest interview process.

What is the best thing with the I-talent program?

It’s a good start to the company and you’re able to see different parts of Scania and understand the bigger picture.

One important thing is also meeting other  wonderful people through the program who works all over Scania in different roles.
